what is a BusEye?
At Laurel Falls Camp for girls, in Clayton, Georgia back in the '20s, '30s and '40s there lived a permanent year round resident named, Buseye. Buseye was an imaginary creature Lillian Smith created to bring joy, delight and mystery to the campers' experiences. While researching "Miss Lil's Camp" and interviewing the former campers, reading stories they had written when they were young girls, I "met" Buseye over and over again. The stories about him were wonderful and to hear women in their 70's and 80's laughing as they recounted in vivid detail different experiences they remembered about Buseye, left quite an impression on me. How wonderful that an imaginary creature is still delighting the women decades later.
With Buseye, anything was possible.
When choosing a name for my new production entity, I wanted something personal that would put a smile on my face and hold the meaning of what my goals and intentions are in the film projects I take on. I wanted to honor Lillian Smith and her amazing ideals, using Buseye as my tool, much as she did at Laurel Falls Camp.
